Welcome to The Chiltern Psychology Clinic

My service provides online psychological therapy for individuals suffering from emotional and psychological distress. My aim is to provide a therapeutic environment that is professional, warm and comforting, whereby clients can feel fully supported and helped through their difficulties.

Whether you’re struggling with low mood, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem, or simply feeling stuck, I am committed to helping you to make sense of your difficulties and move forward in a way that feels right for you.

My service offers personalised therapy, tailor-made to meet your unique needs and goals. My approach is rooted in evidence-based practice. I am able to offer an initial FREE consultation (approximately 15 minutes) by telephone or zoom meeting, to explore whether I can support you with your difficulties. About Me

Dr. Lisa Matthias BSc, MSc, PsychD, CPsychol

I am a dedicated and compassionate Chartered Counselling Psychologist with over fifteen years of experience working in the NHS and private sector.

My aim is to provide a safe and supportive therapeutic space for individuals to explore their emotional, behavioural, cognitive, and relational difficulties, to help them to overcome their challenges and to facilitate their personal growth. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship as being essential for effective therapy.

I am committed to working at a pace that feels right to the individual, and as such, I place emphasis on tailoring each episode of therapy to meet the client where they are at during their evolving therapeutic journey. I offer short-term or long-term therapy. All sessions last 50 minutes and I offer sessions in the daytime or evening and weekends. Please contact me to learn more about my availability.

Therapy Models

The main therapeutic approaches I draw on include:

Humanistic, Person Centred Therapy

This approach focuses on the natural tendency for human psychological growth and self-actualisation. It emphasises on providing therapeutic conditions such as unconditional positive regard, empathic listening and a non-judgemental stance to facilitate client’s growth.

Psychodynamic Therapy

This approach focuses on the person’s early childhood relationships and how they have shaped their present-day patterns of relating to themselves and others; as well as exploring the person’s emotional coping strategies. This approach helps clients to gain insight and understanding in order to facilitate change.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

This approach can be a more active form of therapy. It involves helping clients to identify and change their unhelpful cognitive processes (i.e., thoughts, beliefs or assumptions) and behaviours that may be contributing to their mental health difficulties.
